Based in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, proprietor Stuart Hay LBIPP, is a qualified member of the British Institute of Professional Photography (BIPP). Being founded in 1901, the BIPP is the oldest established professional institute for professional full-time photographers in the UK.
Stuart’s passion for photography all started as a 10 year old school boy, where through hours of studying, he taught himself the technical aspects of the profession which has stood him in good stead throughout his career ever since. In his teenage years, Stuart developed a keen interest in black and white photography. This resulted in him learning to process film and produce exhibition quality black and white prints.
Whilst studying for his A-level examinations at New College in Telford, Stuart started the photographic society at the college, which included the setting up of a fully functional darkroom. Throughout his time at New College, Stuart produced the photographs and audio-visual slideshows to be used as educational material in lectures by the teaching staff. In addition, Stuart supplied the tutor group photographs and sports photographs throughout his time there. At the end of his time at New College, Stuart was awarded with the Harry Parr Memorial Trophy which was given to the student who had made the most outstanding contribution to the college during their time there.
After leaving New College, Stuart attended the BBC’s college in Wood Norton where he trained as a sound engineer in radio. After qualifying, Stuart worked for the BBC in London for 9 years as a Group 2 (music) studio manager in national radio, where he primarily worked on live and pre-recorded Radio 1 and Radio 2 programmes. Through attachments, Stuart also has experience in working as a sound engineer on both regional and national BBC television programmes. During his time at the BBC and as a side line, Stuart was often asked to do PR photography assignments for various nationally known DJ’s and celebrities. It was whilst he was at the BBC that Stuart established his current business, which continues to be successful to this day.
The excellent quality of Stuart's work has been recognised nationally with several prizes having been awarded in the following national print competitions:
